Natalia Markowska
Hang Up Giclée Photographic Print on Epson Semi-Gloss of a Site-Specific Installation 18.6cm x 20cm FOR SALE (Email [email protected]) The artwork submitted is a photographic print of an installation “Hang-up” created in January this year. This work was inspired by the sexual assault Natalia experienced last year, where she was subjected to an act of voyeurism at a workplace. Whilst urinating in the toilet, she was secretly filmed on a mobile by the deputy manger, who put his phone through a hole in a wall. This traumatic experience continuously finds its way into her artworks. The small clay bums have been violated by a forceful touch from a thumb and are tangled within a double-sided tape that is slick, sticky and uncomfortable. Natalia Markowska is a visual artist (b.1985, Poland) working and living in London. She received BA Fine Art (Specialist Route-Painting) from London Metropolitan University in 2010. She is embarking on an MA Fine Art course at City and Guilds of London Art School this September. Natalia works predominantly in drawing with a focus on the line, developing towards sculpture and installation. She also incorporates sound and performance in her practice. Natalia makes autobiographical works centred around emotions, state of mind and her life experiences. Her practice is both a physical and mental journey concerned with the process.
