Gesture Study (Flesh) was created less than three weeks after I had given birth to my first child. A week after my daughter was born, the 45th American President was inaugurated. Living in New Orleans at the time, the collective panic and outrage which followed could be felt with palpable concern. I felt conflicted – at once I wanted to act, but was house bound and longed to hide, protect myself and my daughter from what was coming.
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to a Canadian mother and Welsh father, Robyn LeRoy-Evans spent much of her early life on the move. In 2012 Robyn achieved a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art from Sheffield Hallam University. On a whim she moved to New Orleans in 2014, and a year-and-a-half later had made plans to leave, when she unexpectedly met the love of her life. Robyn is now a proud member of the artist-run gallery, The Front, regularly attending meetings with her infant daughter in tow.
