The Nasty Women exhibition appealed to me as my work has tended to
push, or dig, deeper than many people want to go - be that into the "shadow" self, or the emotional self. In my work, I create a space in which the view may connect with aspects of themselves - emotional, psychological, or spiritual. I see my work as a space for connection and transformation. A space for feeling and discovering more about who and what we are. It is in asking difficult questions that we challenge the status quo - and frequently find ourselves seen, or labelled, "outsiders". To be a "nasty woman" is, for me, to be a woman on the outside - a woman who threatens the status quo and patriarchal ideas about what a "woman" should be.
